Areas of Responsibility of the CommitteeAt the commencement of each Parliament and as often thereafter as the Speaker considers necessary, the Speaker determines and tables a schedule showing the portfolio responsibilities for each standing committee. Accordingly, on 30 May 2001 the Speaker tabled a schedule showing portfolio responsibilities for each of the standing committees appointed by the Legislative Assembly at the commencement of the thirty-sixth Parliament.
The specific portfolio responsibilities of the Public Accounts Committee are:
- Department of Treasury and Finance, and
- Minister Assisting the Treasurer.
As the Public Accounts Committee may inquire into and report to the Assembly on any proposal, matter or thing it considers necessary, connected with the receipt and expenditure of public moneys, its remit is not limited to specific government departments. It operates from a whole of government perspective, and can inquire into any government agency or aspect of the public sector. It also has oversight responsibility for the Office of the Auditor General for Western Australia.
