SynopsisThis Bill amends the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1960 in order to give support for the mandatory fitting and maintenance of mains powered smoke alarms in existing residential dwellings.

The Bill will allow progressive phasing in of new requirements for mains powered smoke alarms in existing residences. This will mean the battery issues experienced with many current alarms will be a thing of the past.
