SynopsisThe purpose of this Bill is to implement a number of changes recommended by the Western Australian Electoral Commisioner, including -
  • providing for the formal registration of political parties;
  • enabling greater efficiency and convenience in the casting and processing of absentee and postal votes, and in candidate nominations; and
  • removing a number of obsolete provisions from the Electoral Act 1907.

Royal Assent given 10 Oct 2000 as Act No. 36 of 2000. Different sections of this Act come into operation on Royal Assent and Proclamation. For details refer to Commencement Clause of the Bill (see also Assent and Commencement information for Acts)
