Long Title
The purpose of this Bill is to - to allow the transfer of contractual rights from the shipper to the lawful holder of the bill of lading and for such transfer to occur irrespective of whether property has passed upon or by reason of consignment or indorsement of the bill of lading so as to accommodate changes in the legal and commercial environment; to extend contractual rights to persons to whom delivery of goods is to be made under a sea way bill or a ship’s delivery order which are becoming increasingly used in carriage of goods by sea; provide functional equivalence to paper and electronic bills and lading to recognise technological advances being made by industry in this area; to improve the evidentiary status of a bill of lading.
