SynopsisThis Bill is part of a package of legislation to reform Western Australia's lower court system. The Bill addresses the issues of recruitment and training for Justices of the Peace. This Bill has three components -
1. Establishes specific criteria and guidelines to be considered by the Minister when recommending to the Governor appointments and the termination of appointments of JP's;
2. Provides that prior to their appointment, JP's must satisfactorily complete an approved training course;
3. The Bill requires current JP's to take up these training opportunities, unless they have previously completed an approved training course.

Royal Assent given 15 Sep 2004 as Act No. 23 of 2004. This Act comes into operation on a day fixed by Proclamation (see Assent and Commencement information for Acts)
