Magistrates Court (Civil Proceedings) Bill 2003

SynopsisThis Bill is the second in a package of legislation to reform the lower Courts in Western Australia. The purpose of this particular Bill is to provide for the civil jurisdiction of the proposed new Magistrates Court. The Court will have jurisdiction in relation to monetary claims up to $50,000. As from 1 January 2009 the jurisdictional limit will be raised to $75,000. The Court will also have jurisdiction within the monetary limit in relation to claims for equitable relief and consumer/ trading claims.

Royal Assent given 12 Nov 2004 as Act No. 48 of 2004. This Act comes into operation on a day fixed by Proclamation (see Assent and Commencement information for Acts)
