The Bill seeks to amend the Electoral Act 1907 and the Constitution Acts Amendment Act 1889 and repeal the Electoral Distribution Act 1947 to remove malapportionment of electorates in Western Australia; to provide for one vote one value principle. The Bill seeks to -
provide for all Legislative Assembly seats (except five seats in the Mining and Pastoral region) to have approximately the same enrolment of votes allowing for a 10% variation; increase the membership of the Legislative Council from 34 members to 36 members; and
entrench the one vote one value principle with any future amendment requiring an absolute majority in both Houses of Parliament. |
