| Long Title |
The purpose of this Bill is to -
amend the Sentencing Act 1995; amend the Young Offenders Act 1994; repeal the Sentence Administration Act 1995; and
give Parliament more control over the sentences that will be imposed, particularly for offences seen as of especial aggravation to the community. This Bill forms part of the Sentencing Legislation Amendment and Repeal Bill 1998 [50-2], which was divided into two Bills by the Legislative Council. The reason for dividing that Bill was so that the other part of the Bill; the Sentencing Matrix Bill 1999 [99-1], could be referred to the Standing Committee on Legislation. |

Notes
1. This Bill was created after the Sentencing Legislation Amendment and Repeal Bill 1998 [50-2] had its second reading agreed to and the House further agreed to divide that Bill into two Bills. The other new Bill created is the Sentencing Matrix Bill 1999 [99-1] which has been referred to the Standing Committee on Legislation.
2. Amendments agreed to in the Legislative Council for this Bill [98-1] were sent to the Legislatvie Assembly with the original Bill [50-2]. See this Bill for further progress.
