Synopsis
This Bill introduces a number of important electoral amendments. The key aspects of the legislation are -
the introduction of public electoral funding of candidates and political parties;
provision of a fixed election date for conjoint elections (the third Saturday in February in the election year);
changing the expiry date of the Legislative Council to 21 March in each election year; and
a range of machinery provisions that will serve to assist electors and make the administration of the electoral process simpler and more timely.
