Conservation and Land Management Amendment Bill 1999

Synopsis
The purpose of this Bill is to amend the
Conservation and Land Management Act 1984
to establish a new conservation body to be known as the "Conservation Commission of Western Australia", in which national parks, nature reserves, conservation parks, State forests and timber reserves will be vested.
The Bill contains related amendments including abolition of three existing bodies: the Lands and Forest Commission; the Forest Production Council; and the National Parks and Nature Conservation Authority. Amendments will also be made to the functions of the "Department of Conservation and Land Management", which will be re-named the "Department of Conservation".
The ability to contract for the harvesting of forest products from public land and timber sharefarm land and for the sale of those products will be removed from the
Conservation and Land Management Act 1984
. Those functions will be undertaken by the Forests Products Commission provided for in the
Forest Products Bill 1999
.
Status
Assented to 10/10/2000
Royal Assent given 10 Oct 2000 as Act No. 35 of 2000. Different sections of this Act come into operation on Royal Assent and Proclamation. For details refer to Commencement Clause of the Bill (see also
