Synopsis | The Bill amends the Taxi Act 1994 in three important ways, to help achieve the Government's objective of enabling the taxi industry to provide a timely and efficient taxi service to consumers, while delivering decent incomes for taxi operators. The Bill seeks to improve the enforceability of conditions. The Bill aims to provide greater flexibility to issue more plates in the growing demand for taxi services, both peak and non-peak. The Bill will provide an opportunity for the owners of transferable restricted hours taxi plates to upgrade their plates to owned conventional plates on terms to be approved by the Minister. |
