Position Title:Committee Clerk
Level and Salary:Level 3/4 ($62,894 - $74,845 pa) + superannuation

Primary Responsibilities and Additional Information:Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons interested in working for the Parliament, contributing directly to the work of parliamentary committees of the Legislative Council.

The successful candidate will work primarily for standing committees which are comprised of Members of Parliament of the various political parties represented in the Legislative Council. Committees inquire into and report to the Legislative Council on a range of issues affecting the administration of the State.

A Committee Clerk undertakes a range of administrative work for parliamentary committees, including taking minutes of meetings, publishing committee material, maintaining the committee’s records, and providing procedural advice when required. A Committee Clerk works in conjunction with an Advisory Officer in supporting a committee’s activities.

The position offers daily exposure to the Parliament, political processes and the Parliament’s scrutiny role, frequent contact with parliamentarians on the committee, access to the views and opinions of expert witnesses, and a degree of autonomy and independence in managing workload.
Details:Applicants need to meet the following criteria:

Essential:
· Appropriate administrative experience
· Sound written and oral communication skills
· Sound planning and organisational skills
· Understanding of, and experience with, contemporary information technology, particularly Microsoft Word
· Capacity to undertake committee travel as required

Desirable:
· Understanding of, and experience with, electronic document and record management systems, particularly Objective
· Knowledge and understanding of the Legislative Council committee system
· Knowledge and understanding of the legislative process and parliamentary/political systems
· Appropriate and relevant tertiary qualification
