Position Title:Advisory Officer
Level and Salary:Level 7 - $107,200-$114,897 per annum + superannuation

Primary Responsibilities and Additional Information:Applications are sought for an Advisory Officer in the Legislative Council Committee Office. The position is full time on a 12 month contract basis, with the possibility of ongoing employment. Applicants must possess suitable tertiary qualifications.

Advisory Officers work with the Committees of the Legislative Council, assisting in the conduct of their inquiries and production of reports. The Committees of the Legislative Council conduct inquiries into a broad range of matters affecting Western Australia.

Advisory Officers research and provide advice to Committees, including strategies to conduct investigations into matters, and are responsible for the drafting of reports at the Committee’s instruction. High level investigative, research, analytical and writing skills are essential for this position. Candidates who possess a detailed understanding of the public sector and who have a background in commerce, law and investigations are particularly encouraged to apply.

Staff of the Committee Office must be apolitical and discrete, noting it is likely they will deal with a considerable amount of confidential information within a political environment. Meeting the needs of the Parliament is paramount, requiring commitment and flexibility from staff in order to meet deadlines. Overtime may be required on some occasions.

The position offers a unique opportunity to directly contribute to the political process in Western Australia by assisting the Committee’s investigations and inquiries.
