Primary Responsibilities and Additional Information:Applications are sought for two Principal Research Officers with the Legislative Assembly Committee Office. One full-time permanent position and one full-time 12 month fixed term contract with the possibility of extension.

We are looking for suitably qualified people to work primarily for parliamentary standing committees. Relevant tertiary qualifications are necessary.

A Principal Research Officer is a committee’s principal adviser, organiser, analyst and writer, and manages a Research Officer. Some work outside of normal hours may be required, as will travel with the committee from time to time.

The position involves daily exposure to the Parliament and its scrutiny and political processes, frequent contact with parliamentarians, access to the views and opinions of expert specialist witnesses, a high degree of autonomy and independence in managing the work of the committee’s staff, and the opportunity to draft committee reports for eventual publication.

Staff of the Legislative Assembly must be entirely apolitical and discreet as they deal with sensitive and confidential information in a political environment.
