Worked briefly on Portland Guardian, then on stations
By 1864 one of seven Shareholders forming Portland Squatting Company
Established Pyramid station on George River 1866
With his brother John Elliot and John Edgar, bought out the other partners 1869-1872, acquired further runs on the Fortescue; 1876 left manager at Pyramid and moved south to Lowlands, farming and grazing property at Serpentine, but still held NW leases
Formed Murray Squatting Co 1880, established Yeeda (West Kimberley) then sold this 1883 and purchased Mardie station in Roebourne in which he held an interest for three decades plus numerous other stations
