Parliament: 40 Session: 1

INTEGRATED TIMBER PROCESSING YARD — EXPRESSION OF INTEREST 22/2107
      41. Hon DIANE EVERS to the minister representing the Minister for Forestry:
I refer to expression of interest 22/2107 for an integrated timber processing yard.
      (1) Will the minister list how many responses there have been to the EOI, including how many from companies headquartered in WA, other Australian jurisdictions, and overseas?
(2) In relation to (1), will the minister please state —
      (a) the proposed locations within the south west that the respondents have named; and
          (b) which function of the proposed facility the respondents have expressed interest in operating?
      (3) Will the minister please outline the expected time frame and process for choosing successful applicants?
      (4) What is the total expected cost in dollars to taxpayers of the proposal, including future costs and those costs that have already been incurred?
Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
I thank the member for the question. The Minister for Forestry has provided the following response.
      (1) Twenty-four responses were received. There were 19 from WA, three from other Australian jurisdictions and two from overseas.
          (2) (a) The proposed locations are Nannup, Kemerton, Dardanup, Manjimup, Diamond Mill and Neerabup.
          (b) Respondents were invited to provide information on any one or more of the following five components: provision of potential location/site for the integrated timber processing yard—there were nine responses; supply of privately grown log timber—there were four responses; design, build and operate the merchandising line—there were nine responses; and the purchase of timber products and operation of timber processing facilities—there were five responses.
