BUNBURY OUTER RING ROAD
ROUTE — SOUTHERN SECTION
788. Hon DIANE EVERS to the minister representing the
Minister for Transport:
I refer to the southern section of
the Bunbury Outer Ring Road project.
(1) Has the
Department of Transport considered an alternative southern route taking off
from South Western Highway, joining Fowler Road north of Boyanup and continuing
along Railway Road to Capel, rather than the proposed southern BORR route
through the already built-up area of Gelorup?
(2) If yes to (1), what were the
findings?
(3) If no to (1),
could it be considered as an alternative to address a long-term outlook for
transport in and around Bunbury?
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following information has been provided to me
by the Minister for Transport.
(1) Yes.
(2) The
corridor for the southern section is around 10 kilometres long, while the
suggested alternative route would be over 25 kilometres long and significantly
wider than the existing local road reserves, which it would be required to
utilise, including Fowler Road and Railway Road. The suggested alternative
would be considerably longer and wider than that proposed in order to maintain
local road reserves and property access. This would result in increased
environmental impacts, land acquisition and project cost.
(3) Not applicable.
