Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 158 asked in the Legislative Council on 27 March 2018 by Hon Diane Evers

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

BARRABUP FOREST — LOGGING
      158. Hon DIANE EVERS to the minister representing the Minister for Forestry:
      (1) Can the minister confirm that Barrabup 03 is the only forest alongside Vasse Highway between Busselton and Nannup that consists mainly of forest last logged prior to 1920?
      (2) If yes to (1), does the minister agree that this would make Barrabup a significant asset left in its natural state and not logged, especially given it is on the main gateway and less than five kilometres to the tourist town of Nannup?
      (3) If no to (1), what are the names, locations and sizes of other forests of this age alongside Vasse Highway between Busselton and Nannup?
(4) Will the minister advise whether there is any expectation of logging Barrabup in 2018?
(5) If yes to (4), when is the planned start date?
Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
I thank the member for the question. The Minister for Forestry has given me the following answer.
(1)–(3) The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions is the land manager and custodian of these datasets. This question should be referred to the Minister for Environment.
(4)–(5) There is no planned start date for logging in the Barrabup coupe.
