Question On Notice No. 418 asked in the Legislative Council on 31 October 2017 by Hon Diane Evers

Question Directed to the: Minister for Environment
Parliament: 40 Session: 1
Tabled Paper No: 948- View tabled paper

Question

(1) I refer to the Review of Old Growth Forests Status for Barrabup 03, and the websites of the Conservation and Parks Commission (CPC) and Department of Conservation, Biodiversity and Attractions (DCBA) and ask, given both agencies’ websites state old growth assessments requested by public nomination will be conducted by the Commission until 30 June 2017, why was the old growth assessment for Barrabup, requested on 6 June 2017, conducted by DCBA and not the CPC?

(2) Will the Minister please table all minutes and memos from the meeting held on 24 March 2017 by staff of the CPC and the then Department of Parks and Wildlife to discuss old growth forest assessment procedures?
(3) If no to (2), why not?
Answered on 30 November 2017

1. The Forest Management Plan 2014-2023 requires the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions to take on the assessment of community nominations of areas of previously unmapped old-growth forest once the procedures to identify, assess and demarcate old-growth forests were finalised (management activity 6.3).

The procedures were prepared in consultation with the Conservation and Parks Commission and approved in March 2017, and presented at the Commission’s April meeting.

Both agencies’ websites have been updated accordingly.

2. Relevant documents relating to the meeting on 24 March 2017 were tabled on 11 October 2017 (refer to Tabled No. #).
