Parliament’s Presiding Officers were delighted to host the launch of the exhibition ‘An Enduring Exuberance: Murdoch University's Art Collection turns 50’ on Thursday 14 March.
The collection coincides with the 50th anniversary of Murdoch University’s foundation in 1974, and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the University’s nationally acclaimed art collection.
The Murdoch collection includes more than 2,500 works, and this exhibition at Parliament features 26 works from artists such as Sandra Hill, Robert Juniper, Nyuju Stumpy Brown, Julie Dowling and Brian McKay. More than half of the artworks in the exhibition are by women.
This exhibition includes one of the original artworks from the collection, the 1956 oil painting by Ian Fairweather, 'Mother and Child', and the most recently acquired work ‘Arrow Painting’ (2021) by contemporary artist Gemma Smith, whose artwork is featured on the cover of the exhibition’s program.
The exhibition will be on display until the end of January 2025.
