Parliament is honoured to display the artwork ‘Beemurrah Protecting the Seven Sisters’ by Carol Martin OAM, former Member for Kimberley (February 2001 – March 2013).

The artwork is acrylic on canvas and was painted in Greenough in 2023. The Beemurrah is the creature of creation, and lives in the Greenough River, at Boolungu Springs.

Carol Martin is a Yamatji Elder and is connected to both Naaguja and Nanda groups from the Midwest Region. She is also Noongar, connected to Wudjari group. Martin became the first Aboriginal woman to be elected to any Australian Parliament when she won the seat of Kimberley in 2001.
