Reconciliation Week Street Banner Program

26 May 2023
Banner against blue sky

As part of National Reconciliation Week, Parliament is proud to be part of the Reconciliation Week Street Banner Program. Our sponsored banner is located close to Parliament on Kings Park Road, West Perth. It displays the colourful artwork titled ‘Jartuti’ by artist Beverley Rogers, who lives and paints in Punmu Community. Jartuti is a water source located close to Parnngurr Aboriginal Community.

Reconciliation Week, 27 May to 3 June, starts on the anniversary of the day that aimed to give Indigenous people of Australia greater equality, the successful 1967 referendum. This, along with the 3 June 1992, High Court Mabo decision, recognising that native title existed for all Indigenous people, commemorates two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey.
