06 March 2020 - Parliament
WA Parliament celebrated International Women’s Day 2020 with its annual morning tea for staff on Friday, 6 March. The Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Lisa Baker, spoke on this year’s theme of #EachforEqual, to build a gender equal world.
There have been 93 women members of the WA Parliament since the first woman, Edith Cowan, was elected on 12 March 1921. The Parliamentary Library has produced a
publication celebrating the achievements of just some of those women in challenging stereotypes, broadening perceptions and improving situations.
Parliament House will be lit purple from 6 to 8 March in recognition of International Women’s Day.
