To the Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of the Parliament of Western Australia in Parliament assembled.
We, the undersigned, say
The shortage of indoor courts in inner metropolitan areas of Perth has reached critical levels. This situation impacts many individuals and families who seek to participate in team sports, including basketball, volleyball and badminton. Due to this court shortage, single Clubs are forced to schedule their games and training across dozens of venues throughout a large geographical area every week, causing logistical and financial challenges for families, volunteers and staff of these Clubs. Additionally, thousands of aspirational players across these sports are missing out on the significant community benefits of regular sporting activity.
On behalf of the Perth sporting community, we seek collaboration to solve this indoor courts crisis. Specifically, we seek funding and land to build a new stadium for Perth, located in Kensington. Our vision is for a 12-court indoor sporting and mixed-use community facility home to, and run by, the Perth Basketball Association. Now is the time to work together to address the inner metropolitan court shortage and create infrastructure designed to meet the needs of families, sports teams, individuals and fans into the future.
Now we ask the Legislative Assembly
To commit land (a portion of 3 Baron Hay Court, Kensington) and commensurate funding to build a 12-court indoor sporting and mixed-use community facility in a manner that ensures expedited construction and completion. We also ask that our Government works collaboratively with the Federal Government to identify opportunities for further investment.
