Leeuwin Offshore Wind Farm

To the Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of the Parliament of Western Australia in Parliament assembled. We, the undersigned, say

We strongly oppose the proposed Leeuwin Offshore Wind Farm project, 20km off the coast of Western Australian. Federal Labor is proposing to lock up 7,674 square kilometres which will include the pristine waters of Cape Naturaliste and Busselton.
The offshore wind farms will have a profound long-term effect on our unique WA coastline and related tourism industry which is an essential part of the region. The recent and limited community consultation sessions provided no constructive information or reassurance to local or WA communities who regularly frequent the region. There are still many unanswered questions about the full impact it will have upon the health and wellbeing of residents living in nearby coastal communities and directly upon the documented migratory whales and turtles, fish stocks and extensive reef systems. It is not unreasonable to expect detailed information by this stage of the planning process. This has not been provided, which is of considerable concern and points to a distinct lack of transparency.

Now we ask the Legislative Assembly

We urge the WA Labor State Government to stand up and support the people of Western Australia who highly value this special and internationally recognised WA region. We ask that Premier Roger Cook and Minister for the Environment oppose the proposed reckless Leeuwin Offshore Wind Farm project in the interests of the health and wellbeing of Western Australian residents. This will potentially impact the marine mammals, fish, birdlife and unique reefs for the long term . It will directly impact the recreational and commercial fishing industry and related tourism industries. We are calling on our Premier and Minister to ensure this reckless wind farm proposal does not proceed.
