Ban Political Donations From Developers in Western Australia

Eligibility : Residents of Western Australia Only

To the President and Members of the Legislative Council of the Parliament of Western Australia in Parliament assembled. We the undersigned ...

Urge the Legislative Council to support legislation banning political donations from developers in Western Australia. Reform is essential to ensure transparency and reduce undue influence on political processes.
Perth’s urban sprawl raises critical concerns about environmental sustainability, habitat loss, quality of life, and fairness in land-use decisions. A ban on developer donations would address perceived conflicts of interest, shifting the focus toward public welfare and long-term sustainability over private financial gains. In 2023 the WA Labor Government dismissed the need for such reform, sparking ongoing community debate.
Impartiality in decision-making must exist and be visibly demonstrated to restore public trust.
Examples of concerns include:
• Instances where individuals involved in high-level planning decision-making also maintain active roles or interests in the property development sector, potentially leading to conflicts between public duty and private interests.
• Situations where participants in planning decisions have close personal relationships with individuals representing parties involved in those same decisions, raising concerns about impartiality and procedural fairness.
• Cases were individuals transitioned from executive roles in property development companies to oversight positions in environmental or planning authorities, without sufficient safeguards to prevent undue influence or bias relating to past associations.
These cases highlight the urgent need for public confidence in planning decisions, free from perceived conflicts of interest. Perth’s growth demands sustainable development. Allowing developer donations risks prioritising financial gains over community welfare and environmental protection.
MRRP advocate for a complete ban to ensure transparency, accountability, and trust in land-use decisions. The time for reform is now.

And your petitioners as in duty bound, will ever pray.
