Opposition to the proposed Burswood Motor Racing Circuit

oppose the location and construction of a purpose built street racing circuit and Motorplex in Burswood Park, a unique inner-city riverside sanctuary for humans, fauna and flora. Announced on 12 January 2025 without public consultation and Cabinet approval, the Burswood Motorplex project will replace a widely-supported Burswood Park Board Master Plan and 20 Year Vision announced in November 2023 after years of broad community consultation.
We therefore ask the Legislative Council to support an inquiry that will review all aspects of the project planning and expenditure process to investigate our concerns that the project will not return maximum benefits for park users, Burswood Peninsula and Victoria Park residents and the Western Australian community as a whole, and also risks significant negative impacts in the areas of environment, environmental health and quality of life of residents, economic return on public investment, cultural heritage, tourism priorities, cost of living relief, good governance, planned residential developments and the motorsports industry as a whole.
