To the President and Members of the Legislative Council of the Parliament of Western Australia in Parliament assembled. We the undersigned request that the Legislative Council ...
Express our deep concern about the Cook Labor Government’s poor management of Western Australia’s fisheries, which has created serious problems for the sector and threatens the future of recreational fishing, commercial fishing, and the regional communities that depend on it.
And we therefore ask the Legislative Council:
To call on the Government to:
1. Establish a Parliamentary Inquiry into Western Australia’s fisheries to examine:
o The need for a clear, long-term plan for sustainable fisheries that supports all fishing stakeholders
o The impact of marine parks, renewable energy developments, illegal fishing, shark predation, and other contemporary challenges on fish stocks and access.
o Whether the Department of Fisheries is adequately resourced to meet its responsibilities
2. Commit to genuine and ongoing consultation with recreational fishers, commercial operators, and other stakeholders before any major management decisions are made.
And your petitioners as in duty bound, will ever pray.
