The role of Clerk

The Clerk of the Legislative Assembly advises the Speaker and Members of the House on the standing orders (rules of debate) and matters of procedure. The Clerk is apolitical.

The Clerk is also the chief executive officer of the Legislative Assembly, responsible for the administration of the Legislative Assembly and its committees. The Clerk also works closely with the Clerk of the Legislative Council and Executive Manager Parliamentary Services on the administration of the Parliament.

About our Clerk

Kirsten Robinson commenced with the Legislative Assembly of the Parliament of Western Australia in November 1988 and held various positions in the papers office and as a research officer in the Legislative Assembly committee office.

Kirsten left the Legislative Assembly in 2000 to work as a policy officer for the Western Australian Electoral Commission, returning to Parliament in the role of Clerk Assistant and Sergeant-at-Arms in 2005.

In April 2011, Kirsten was appointed to the position of Deputy Clerk, commencing in her current position as Clerk of the Legislative Assembly on 10 October 2015. She is the first female Clerk of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly.

Kirsten has a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Politics and a Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Western Australia.
