Ms Lisa Baker, MLA, was elected the Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly by the members of the Legislative Assembly on 11 May 2017.
In the absence of the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker performs the duties and exercises the authority of the Speaker. The Deputy Speaker is the chair of the annual estimates committee process in the Legislative Assembly.
Lisa Baker is a graduate of Curtin University in psychology and development studies. She has worked for the National Native Title Tribunal and the United Nations agencies in Asia, held various director positions with state government agencies and been Chief Executive Officer of the Western Australian Council of Social Services. She has also been a member of the Mundaring Shire Council.
Lisa was elected to the Parliament of Western Australia as the member for Maylands on 6 September 2008 and has held the seat at two subsequent elections. She has served on various Legislative Assembly and Joint Committees and has previously held positions as Acting Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.
On a personal level, she has a strong interest in dressage and animal welfare.
