Housing—Nimitz Estate, Exmouth
207. Mr David Boltto theMinister for Gascoyne:
(1) Given the severe lack of housing in Exmouth, is the minister aware of the urgent need for the state government to release the land known as Nimitz estate?
(2) If yes to (1), when can the town expect the land release to occur, given the town expected the government to release the land in June last year?
(3) If no to (1), as the Minister for Gascoyne, will the minister urgently follow up on this matter?
Ms Hannah Beazley replied:
(1)–(3) I thank the member for the question. Yes, I have been lucky enough to go to the Gascoyne a number of times already since my appointment as the Minister for Gascoyne. I understand the limitations of housing development in Exmouth and I have spoken to my ministerial colleagues about that, but in terms of the release of lands, the member will need to speak to the minister responsible for that.
Several members interjected.
The Speaker: Members! Would you like to have a supplementary question or not? Supplementary question, member for Murray–Wellington.
208. Mr David Boltto theMinister for Gascoyne:
I have a supplementary question. The minister may choose not to answer this, but given the critical need for additional housing not just in Exmouth but right across regional Western Australia, why has it taken the state government so long to release this land in Exmouth?
Ms Hannah Beazley replied:
I thank the member for the question. Again, I am not the relevant minister for the release of lands, particularly with the member's reference to the whole of regional Western Australia. I am not the Minister for Planning and Lands or the Minister for Regional Development.
The Speaker: Thank you, minister. That concludes question time.
