Information Commissioner—Catherine Fletcher

Brief ministerial statement

Dr Tony Buti (Armadale—Attorney General) (12:03 pm): Today I inform the house that on 15 July 2025 Catherine Fletcher will conclude her term as Western Australian Information Commissioner after seven years in the role. Ms Fletcher was appointed as Acting Information Commissioner in July 2018. She was then formally appointed to the role of Information Commissioner in July 2019 by my predecessor, Hon John Quigley MLA.

Since that time, Ms Fletcher has capably undertaken the role of Information Commissioner and led her office in undertaking its statutory functions to the highest standard. She has also been Commissioner of the State Records Commission and spent two years as chair.

Ms Fletcher's commitment to both the law and public service has been exemplary and spans 35 years. She commenced her legal career in the then Crown Solicitor's Office and went on to hold a range of positions within the Western Australian and Commonwealth legal systems, including the roles of Legal Aid Western Australia criminal duty lawyer and Western Australian State Prosecutor.

Ms Fletcher was recently recognised through receipt of the Antoinette Kennedy Award from Women Lawyers of Western Australia. This award recognised her continuous contribution to the advancement of women in the legal profession. I wish to thank Ms Fletcher for her service as Information Commissioner of Western Australia and wish her well for the future.
