Housing—East Wanneroo district structure plan
Brief ministerial statement
Mr John Carey (Perth—Minister for Planning and Lands) (12:06 pm): I rise to inform the house that the Cook Labor government's long-term plan to unlock land for thousands of new homes in Perth's north is being realised with the approval of three local structure plans set to kickstart development in the key growth corridor. Three precincts within the state government's East Wanneroo district structure plan have recently been approved for delivery by the Western Australian Planning Commission. The strategic collaboration between the state government, local government and industry provides a coordinated blueprint for sustainable development in East Wanneroo. The structure plan will unlock more than 8,000 hectares of land across the major northern suburbs growth corridor that will be released for development over the next 50 years. It will deliver up to 50,000 new homes for 150,000 people across Wanneroo, Jandabup, Pinjar and Gnangara.
The structure plan is divided into 28 precincts—

Mr John Carey: Thank you for that background music.
Local structure plans will support the provision of amenities and infrastructure for future communities. Work on the first of these precincts is now underway, which is set to deliver more than 2,000 new homes across 123 hectares. Precincts have been designed to ensure access to public open space through a mix of parks, playing fields and natural bushland, with important environmental assets to be preserved—

Mr John Carey: I am going to get that phone and throw it!
A district-wide infrastructure contribution plan is being prepared to set out timeframes for the delivery of roads, district-level community facilities and groundwater management systems to support the growing community. Our government is doing everything it can to accelerate housing supply, including streamlining planning processes, supporting urban infill and identifying and unlocking land for new greenfield estates.
