Mike Adams—Tribute
Statement
Ms Libby Mettam (Vasse—Deputy Leader of the Opposition) (12:45 pm): I pay tribute to one of Busselton's finest sporting and community legends. Mike Adams came to Busselton in 1954 from Bridgetown and, over the next seven decades, he gained enormous respect and gratitude for his huge contribution to the community. Mike is remembered as an outstanding footballer who played in two premierships with Busselton in the South West Football League, retiring with an outstanding 253 league appearances. Mike umpired hundreds of junior matches and was the chief organiser of the Superules Club. His involvement in football spanned 70 years. Cricket was Mike's other great sporting love, playing with skill and total commitment at local, association and Country Week levels. He served as president and held office for his club and the Busselton Margaret River Cricket Association for many years. Indicating his all-round ability, he was also the men's singles champion at the Busselton Tennis Club and played and umpired basketball.
Mike was an inaugural member of the Rising Sports Star committee, which awards promising young athletes for their success, talent and dedication. He was a mentor for many young people in sport and life over the years. Mike was a long-term Apex Club member, contributing to years of fundraising and supporting worthwhile community causes. Initially working for an electrical store, Mike then successfully moved to real estate where he helped countless people across both professions. Many people owe their start to house and property ownership in this area to his astute and professional advice. Mike was also a dedicated family man with wife, Laurita, and leaves behind children Peter, Grant and Felicity with their families.
Vale, Mike Adams.
