Perth Motorplex contract—Eastside Concrete
725. Mr Adam Hort to the Minister for Police:
Merry Christmas, Mr Speaker.
I refer to the "cash for Coffin Cheaters" scandal.
Several members interjected.
The Speaker: Hang on, member for Kalamunda. Members! If you could just keep it down a little bit, we might be able to hear the question.
Mr Adam Hort: I ask the following.
(1) Does the WA Police Force maintain a database of companies associated with organised crime gangs?
(2) Will the WA Police Force provide the government with a list of companies associated with organised crime gangs to ensure they are barred from receiving public funds?
Several members interjected.
The Speaker: Members!
Mr Reece Whitby replied:
(1)–(2) I thank the member for the question. I can advise him that our Western Australian police are leading the nation, as is Western Australia, with our anti-bikie laws and our hard stance against bikies.
Several members interjected.
The Speaker: Members of the opposition!
Mr Reece Whitby: In fact, the advice I get from police is that the problem is very much the actions of members opposite, who voted twice this year to give bikies their guns.
Several members interjected.
The Speaker: Members!
Mr Reece Whitby: If members opposite want to talk about—
Mr Lachlan Hunter interjected.
The Speaker: Minister, just wait, please. Members of the opposition, you have asked the question of the minister. You are making it very hard for the rest of us to hear the response. Please stop that level of interjection.
Mr Reece Whitby: As I said, the Commissioner of Police and the entire police force are dedicated to protecting Western Australia from the influence and scourge of bikies—
Mr Adam Hort interjected.
The Speaker: Member for Kalamunda!
Mr Reece Whitby: —to the extent that they are actively—
Mr Adam Hort interjected.
The Speaker: Member for Kalamunda!
Mr Basil Zempilas interjected.
The Speaker: Leader of the Opposition!
Mr Basil Zempilas interjected.
The Speaker: Leader of the Opposition, you are making it extremely difficult for me to hear the answer from the minister.
Mr Reece Whitby: —to the extent that I got strong and repeated advice about what would have happened in this state if members opposite had been successful on the two occasions that they tried to rip the guts out of our safer gun laws.
Several members interjected.
The Speaker: Member for Central Wheatbelt!
Mr Basil Zempilas interjected.
The Speaker: Leader of the Opposition, I have warned you before; please stop interjecting.
Mr Reece Whitby: It would have meant guns back in the hands of family and domestic violence offenders, guns in the hands of bikies and guns in the hands of criminals.
726. Mr Adam Hort to the Minister for Police:
I have a supplementary question.
Minister, I will make this simple: Does the WA Police Force maintain a database, or has the minister simply not asked the question?
Several members interjected.
The Speaker: Just wait, minister. Members of the opposition, please. You are making it very difficult. Let the minister respond.
Several members interjected.
The Speaker: Member for Kalamunda, member for Central Wheatbelt and Treasurer, thank you!
Mr Reece Whitby replied:
Our police have extensive data and records on WA bikie gangs. Indeed, we are leading the nation in our use of technology to monitor the activities of bikies.
Mr Lachlan Hunter interjected.
The Speaker: Member for Central Wheatbelt!
Mr Reece Whitby: I can inform the house—
Several members interjected.
The Speaker: Member for Central Wheatbelt, I am calling you for constantly interjecting ,which is disorderly. Leader of the Opposition, I am going to call you for the same thing. Please stop interjecting.
Mr Reece Whitby: In short, our police are doing an excellent job in containing and acting harshly against bikies. This week, WA police raided a bikie headquarters in Perth. That is the kind of action I want to see.
Several members interjected.
The Speaker: Members!
Several members interjected.
The Speaker: Member for Central Wheatbelt and Treasurer, thank you!
