Women's health centres

728. Ms Libby Mettam to the Minister for Health:

I refer to the $14 million funding promised for women's health centres across our state by the Premier during the election, which was not funded in this year's budget.

Given that centres are currently overwhelmed by a backlog of women needing health care, many of whom are fleeing or are victims of domestic violence, why has the minister not fulfilled that promise?

Ms Meredith Hammat replied:

I thank the member for the question. Arrangements have been made for that money to be made available for women's health centres. The department is working with them to ensure that the money is received by them so that they can deliver those services.

729. Ms Libby Mettam to the Minister for Health:

I have a supplementary question. How much longer will women need to wait while this commitment continues to be unfunded, unlike the $217 million for the racetrack?

Several members interjected.

The Speaker: Order, members! Treasurer!

Several members interjected.

The Speaker: This will be an interesting point of order! The Leader of the House.

Point of order

Mr David Michael: There definitely will not be a point of order. I thought that, as a circuit breaker, I would stand up and have this conversation!

The Speaker: Thank you. I am going to uphold that point of order—no! Members, thank you.

Questions without notice resumed

Ms Meredith Hammat replied:

Arrangements have been made. That commitment is funded and the department is working with the women's health services so that the funding will go to them.
