Health Excellence Awards

Brief ministerial statement

Ms Meredith Hammat (Girrawheen—Minister for Health) (9:08 am): I am delighted to rise to recognise the winners of the 2025 WA Health Excellence Awards. These awards showcase the extraordinary dedication and innovation of individuals and teams across our public health system. There were over 300 nominations for the 2025 awards and the calibre of entries was exceptional, reflecting the talent and passion within our health workforce.

I congratulate all winners, particularly Deanne Brooks, emergency nurse practitioner with the WA Country Health Service, recipient of the Minister for Health's Award. Ms Brooks exemplifies the skill and compassion that defines our health professionals. The Director General's Award recognised the geriatricians in the emergency department team at South Metropolitan Health Service whose innovative approach has transformed care for our senior citizens. Sue Morey, nurse practitioner at North Metropolitan Health Service, was the winner of the 7NEWS Health Hero Award. Sue's outstanding service embodies the very best of our health system.

This year's category winners span critical areas: for Excellence in Preventive Health, the hepatitis C elimination drive in Perth, North Metropolitan Health Service; for Excellence in Mental Health, Youth Hospital in the Home, North Metropolitan Health Service; for Excellence in Person-centred Care, the Clinician Awareness and Response Enhancement for Family and Domestic Violence initiative, North Metropolitan Health Service; for Excellence in Safety and Quality, the CHARM Oncology Management System Project, South Metropolitan Health Service and the WA Country Health Service; for Excellence in Workplace Wellbeing and Culture, the Women's Health Strategy and Programs, North Metropolitan Health Service; for Excellence in Sustainability, the Audiology Advanced Scope Practitioner Project, South, East and North Metropolitan Health Services; for Excellence in Aboriginal Health, the "Kaya, where you going?" program at the WA Country Health Service; for Excellence in Rural and Remote Health Care, the Virtual Clinical Pharmacy Service, WA Country Health Service; and for Excellence in Primary Health Care Integration, Women and Newborn Health Service's complex care team, North Metropolitan Health Service.

These awards remind us that our health system's greatest asset is its people and they give an opportunity to acknowledge their achievements. I thank all nominees and winners for their wonderful contributions to the health and wellbeing of Western Australians.
