Director General of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet

11. Hon Tjorn Sibma to the Leader of the House representing the Premier:

I refer to the Premier’s media statement of 14 March announcing the early departure by mutual agreement of Ms Emily Roper PSM as the Director General of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet on 21 March.

(1) What is the cost of the early termination of Ms Roper's contract?

(2) At what stage is the search for Ms Roper's replacement and when is it anticipated that a permanent appointment will be made?

(3) Is there any truth to the media reports that Mr Mike Kaiser, a former Labor state member of the Queensland Parliament, is a candidate for the position?

Hon Stephen Dawson replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

I provide the answer on behalf of the Premier.

(1) In discussions before the state election, Ms Roper advised the Public Sector Commissioner of her intention to not seek reappointment at the end of her current contract in December 2026. To avoid the disruption of a leadership change in the middle of the government's four-year term, it was agreed that Ms Roper would finish before the end of her contract. Under section 59 of the Public Sector Management Act 1994, Ms Roper will receive a payment of $615,056.73, including superannuation.

(2)–(3) Advertising for the role will commence in coming weeks and an appointment will be made once the process is complete. As the recruitment process has not yet commenced, there are no candidates.
