Victims of crime
Statement
Hon Sophia Moermond (South West Region) (5:19 pm): I have been made aware of several incidents in which victims of violent crime were not able to speak about what had happened to them and how their life had been affected. The perpetrators did get the chance to speak as part of their defence, yet there was no opportunity for the victims to speak. They were not able to balance the narrative. We really need to allow those affected by violent crime, whether it is domestic violence or violence in the workplace, to have the opportunity to speak and tell their story so they can get closure. People need to be heard to heal.
