Smiths Beach—Development proposal

196. Hon Neil Thomsonto theLeader of the House representing the Minister for Planning and Lands:

I refer to the ongoing consideration of the development proposal at Smiths Beach, noting that the development requires the creation of a seawall on crown land in the foreshore reserve.

(1) Will the state be required to be a party to the development application prior to its approval?

(2) If yes, when will the government initiate its application?

(3) Has the minister or the state made any representations to the Environmental Protection Authority on the matter and, if yes, what are they?

(4) Has the government received any advice on when the environmental assessment is likely to be completed?

Hon Stephen Dawson replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1) The Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage may be a party in relation to any state-owned land.

(2)–(4) The application is currently with the EPA.
