Pregnancy terminations

225. Hon Maryka Groenewald to the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health:

I refer to the practice of terminating pregnancies in Western Australia since 1998.

(1) What is the total number of cases of babies who have shown signs of life after an abortion procedure?

(2) How many abortions have been performed on girls under the age of 18 years?

(3) What is the total number of cases of babies who were aborted when the reason for the termination given was Trisomy 21 or down syndrome?

Hon Pierre Yang replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. I also acknowledge that that was her first question in this Parliament.

The following answer has been provided by the Minister for Health. It is not possible to provide the requested information in the time required, and I therefore ask the honourable member to place this question on notice.
