Lancelin—Dune erosion

Petition

Hon Rob Horstman (1:02 pm): I present an e-petition containing 1,001 signatures couched in the following terms:

To the President and Members of the Legislative Council of the Parliament of Western Australia in Parliament assembled. We the undersigned …

draw the attention of the House to the escalating issue of coastal erosion in Lancelin, which poses a significant threat to both public and private infrastructure. The Shire of Gingin, as a small regional local government, has a limited rate base and lacks the technical capacity and financial resources required to effectively manage and mitigate the impacts of this erosion. Without immediate intervention, the safety of the foreshore and the integrity of essential coastal infrastructure remain at serious risk. We strongly believe that a retreat is not a viable solution. We therefore ask the Legislative Council to urge the State Government to support the Shire of Gingin and community of Lancelin with emergency funding and specialist technical assistance in response to this urgent and unforeseen environmental challenge.

And your petitioners as in duty bound, will ever pray.
