GnRH agonists
522. Hon Maryka Groenewaldto theparliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the use of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists as puberty blockers for minors diagnosed with gender dysphoria.
(1) Is the minister aware that courts in Western Australia can mandate the use of GnRH agonists as chemical castration drugs for convicted sex offenders?
(2) Are the same formulations of GnRH agonists used for sex offenders being prescribed to minors with gender dysphoria?
Hon Pierre Yang replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided by the Minister for Health.
(1)–(2) The Child and Adolescent Health Service is unaware of medication used by the Department of Justice as this is out of the scope of the health service.
