564. Hon Dr Brad Pettittto theminister representing the Minister for Corrective Services:
I refer to all adult prisons in Western Australia at midnight on Monday 18 August 2025, or the most recent date for which data is available.
(1) How many people were sleeping on a mattress on the floor?
(2) Please provide a breakdown of (1), by prison facility?
(3) For every answer in (1), how many of those were in a cell where another person was also sleeping on a mattress on the floor?

I thank the member for some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me by the Minister for Corrective Services.
(1) As at 18 August 2025, there were 182 prisoners sleeping on a mattress on the floor.
The answer to (2) is in tabular form, and I seek leave to have that incorporated into Hansard.

(3) As at 18 August 2025, it was five prisoners at Broome Regional Prison. It was a temporary measure to facilitate prisoner attendance at courts or prison transfers.
