Firearms—Owner health checks
576. Hon Dr Steve Thomasto theminister representing the Minister for Police:
I refer to my question without notice 530 of 13 August 2025 seeking clarification on the decision-making process and the granting or refusal of an applicant's submission for a gun licence.
(1) As at 19 August 2025, how many sworn officers who hold the rank of sergeant or above are attached to the firearms licensing enforcement division of the Western Australia Police Force?
(2) As at 19 August 2025, how many sworn officers who hold the rank below sergeant are attached to the firearms licensing enforcement division of the WA Police?
(3) Do any sworn officers external to the firearms licensing enforcement division of police have input into the decision-making process of the granting or refusal of an applicant's licence?
(4) If yes to (3), what is the formal scope, nature and degree of their input?

I thank the member for some notice of the question, although I note that the preamble that the member read out was not included in the material that I have, but I do have an answer for—

Hon Matthew Swinbourn: Yes, I do not have that. In any event, the answer I have been provided by the Minister for Police is as follows.
(1)–(2) The Western Australia Police Force advises that due to operational sensitivities, staffing information within a division or district at rank level is not provided.
(3) No.
(4) Not applicable.
