Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital—Radioactive leakage—Request for documents

Notice of motion

Hon Nick Goiran (Leader of the Opposition) gave notice that at the next sitting of the house he would move:

That this house:

(1) Notes that whereas:

(a) The Minister for Health Infrastructure is Hon John Carey MLA, who is represented in this house by a parliamentary secretary;

(b) on 12 August 2025, the minister's parliamentary secretary was asked if the minister would table a maintenance request from March 2023 in which a staff member requested urgent maintenance at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital for rapid radiation leakage, and a follow-up report, and any documents provided to the minister that verified his assertion that the incident was not a radioactive leak—"the Requested Documents";

(c) the minister's parliamentary secretary did not table any of the requested documents on 12 August 2025.

(d) On 13 August 2025, the minister's parliamentary secretary was again asked if the minister would table the requested documents;

(e) the minister's parliamentary secretary did not table any of the requested documents on 13 August 2025.

(f) On 13 August 2025, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council subsequently delivered a statement in the house calling on the government to table the requested documents without any further delay; and

(g) the requested documents have not been tabled.

(2) Orders that Hon Stephen Dawson, Leader of the House in the Legislative Council, lay the requested documents on the table of the house not later than seven days from the day on which this order is made, on behalf of the government of Western Australia.

(3) Where, having regard to when the Legislative Council will be sitting, the Leader of the House is of the opinion that it will not be possible, or not be practicable, to lay the requested documents before the Legislative Council within seven days of this order:

(a) The Leader of the House is ordered to produce the requested documents to the Clerk within seven days of this order.

(b) When the requested documents are received by the Clerk they are taken to have been laid before the Legislative Council.

(c) The laying of the requested documents that is taken to have occurred under 3(b) must be recorded in the minutes of the Council on the first sitting day of the Council after the Clerk receives the requested documents.
