2025 state election—Temporary election workers

584. Hon Tjorn Sibma to the minister representing the Minister for Electoral Affairs:

I refer to the Western Australian Electoral Commission's contract with PersolKelly which permitted the employment of noncitizen temporary election workers (TEWs) on "valid working visas" at the state general election.

(1) Considering the response to my question yesterday, has the WAEC now inquired into the number of non-citizens PersolKelly hired as the TEW workforce?

(2) If yes to (1), how many non-citizens were hired and what roles did they perform?

(3) If no to (1), will WAEC undertake to make such inquiries?

Hon Matthew Swinbourn replied:

I thank the member for some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me by the Minister for Electoral Affairs.

(1)–(3) I draw the member's attention to the government's response to the special inquiry. In relation to the recruitment of temporary election workers, the government has requested the Acting Electoral Commissioner review the Western Australian Electoral Commission's recruitment procedures.
