Digital driver's licence
619. Hon Tim Clifford to the minister representing the Minister Assisting the Minister for Transport:
(1) Is the government planning to introduce a digital driver's licence?
(2) If yes to (1), is the plan to run the program through the public service or is there a plan to outsource it?
(3) If yes to (1), has the government received a rough estimate as to the cost of such a program?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The following response has been provided by the Minister Assisting the Minister for Transport.
(1)–(3) The Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure (DTMI) is participating in a national project led by Austroads, which an association of Australian and New Zealand road transport agencies. DTMI will develop costings for consideration by government, informed by participation in this national project.
