Sex offenders—Chemical castration
675. Hon Maryka Groenewald to the minister representing the Minister for Corrective Services:
I refer to my question without notice asked on 12 August 2025 to the Attorney General regarding medication used to chemically castrate sex offenders. Given that the Attorney General stated that the decision is in fact made between corrective services officers and medical practitioners, I ask:
(1) Can the minister provide a list of the most common medication prescribed to chemically castrate sex offenders?
(2) If not, why not?
Hon Matthew Swinbourn replied:
I thank the member for some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me by the Minister for Corrective Services.
The Department of Justice advises the following.
(1) There are no medications specifically authorised under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme for anti-libidinal treatment—that is, chemical castration—of sex offenders.
(2) Not applicable.
