Long Title |
The purpose of this Bill is to make a limited number of amendments to the Director of Public Prosecutions Act 1991, the effect of which will give the Director of Public Prosecutions the authority to bring and conduct, or take over, prosecutions for prescribed summary offences. The intention behind the Bill is limited in that it is presently planned only for prosecutions currently undertaken by the Western Australian Police Service. It will not impact upon the prosecution functions conducted by other agencies. The Crown Solicitor's Office will continue to undertake prosecutions on behalf of government agencies and those public sector agencies that prosecute their own cases, such as the Minister for Fair Trading and the Department of Transport, will continue to do so. |
